Dental Care

Brush teeth according to the principles of the great independent mind, Dr. Gerard Judd, dentist and chemist from Glendale, AZ, now deceased.  His articles are online by enthusiasts.  I disagree with Judd regarding vitamins, etc. as I am more in line with International Natural Hygiene Society (there was a political split of this organization a few years ago).

Essentially, a) avoid fluoride as it causes gum disease, an incredibly foul breath, etc.  Dentists may use fluoride treatments, imbedded in various products and procedures, without informing their clients. b) Brush teeth with pure natural soap, no toothpaste.  Glycerin, and other additives to toothpaste, even the 'healthy' toothpastes, will diminish the tooth's capacity to recalcify.

My own thoughts:  'Plaque' is a natural product of the mouth/teeth, consisting of friendly microbial flora.  It becomes dysfunctional because of dental and commercial products that interfere with its purpose, which is recalcification of the teeth.  If you taste soap or see bubbles, then you are using too much soap.  A nearly invisible swipe of the brush on the bar will give you enough, and one bar will last one or two life times (no exaggeration).

My experience/thoughts:  After a year of such brushing, once at night before going to bed, my usual dental problems for the last 10 yeasr (occasional cavity in the molar area exacerbated by NYC air pollution) disappeared.  I went to the dentist for my yearly exam and he said, as usual, "Look you have plague, you need root planing or else the disease can go to your head and you will die of neurological disease."  He indicated the plaque by placing his his hook blade to a small area of 'plaque' on my front tooth (side near gum line).  He then proceeded to scrape it off to show me.  The 'plaque' was so hard that it wouldn't move or come off or allow the blade to cut it.  He frowned and jerked harder, then harder.  No removal of plaque.  He then said, "I refuse to work on these teeth until you have gum treatment."  My teeth feel better than ever, and (knock on wood) no problems.

Sugar is falsely maligned.  Sugar is a basic nutrient, common in fruit and quickly metabolized from starches.  It is generally good if unpoisoned, whole, and with a balanced diet.

Acids are destructive to teeth.  Lemon juice is definitely bad unless substantially diluted.  Lemonade can cause cavities quickly, if not diluted enough, and I have not seen that dilution point yet.  I've paid the price, not believing my eyes.  Vinegar can be destructive.  Oranges, etc., are OK.  To be safe, rinse away acids whenever you imbibe them.

Shaving Method

This is convenient, neat, fast, uses very little of your precious filtered (distilled) water, and a life-time of 'shaving cream' is in a bar of soap.

Requirements:  One beard, bar of soap, a disposable razor, washcloth and a cup of pure water.

Shaving creams have only two real purposes that I can discern.  They lubricate the blade so it doesn't pull the whisker harshly, and they soak/softer the whiskers.  So a bar of soap will do that fine.  I only shave my neck, and like beards and dislike shaving.

Sit down with your friends and watch TV or whatever, and with the cup of warm water (raid a teapot), dip the cloth and soak your beard by holding it to your beard.

After three to five minutes go to a sink and wipe the tip of the cloth against a bar of soap two or three times.  Then wipe areas to be shaved to lubricate them.  Foam is not necessary, just a fine film of soap/water.

Shave with rapid strokes.  Rinse and knock the blade clean.  Pour the rest of the water from your cup onto the opposite corner of the cloth and wipe off the breard.  Done.  No mess, few products, no mystery rashes.  Occasionally touch up with electric trimmer.

Cat Bath Method

Usually bathing consumes more water than quality filtration (like distillation) can process.   Answer:  Cat bath.  Materials are two quarts of warm water, one third teaspoon baking soda per quart of water, and a wash cloth.  Use no soap.  Soda acts like somewhat like soap, by neutralizing skin acids.  Dip cloth, scrub, twist out water, dip cloth again, etc.  If water feels too 'soapy', then use less baking soda.  When finished washing, scrub down with dry towel.  Soda is so minimal and mild and natural, that residues are not a problem, especially compared to the carcinogenic residues in tap water.

Incidentally, baking soda is the byproduct of CO2 +sodium hydroxide (lye).

Super Fast Fruit 'Dairy' Smoothie

This is a luxurious, inexpensive, entertaining, healthy, complete meal/drink.  Cool and quick and thus great for summer.  Required:  Blender, frozen organic fruit, distilled water and raw oatmeal, which, as one of the more complex carbohydrates, gives sustained energy.  Serve in fancy liquor glasses for sophistication.

Recipe, serves two

Throw 2/3 cup of oatmeal and 1 cup of water in a blender (optionally add cinnamon and a raw egg (tribute to Jack Lalane).  Blend to cream, which is quite similar to dairy cream in effect.

(Note:  Any such creamed raw oatmeal should be served immediately.  If blended warm, or allowed to sit warm, it can turn gluey, though still not bad.)

Add 1.5 cup of water so frozen fruit won't crash the blender.  I often use rasberries, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, and the staple for smoothies, banana.  Banana is of the lowest of pesticide content for non-organic fruits, incidentally.

Blend in fruit (with optional bit of honey or whole sugar), add water to style, and serve.
